Hey everyone, I'm Ed. I'm a third-year Medical Sciences student on the Pharmacology and Therapeutics pathway and the coordinator for the Year 2 Cohort.
I hope to run sessions which are informative yet informal prompting students to ask questions so we can help in the way they find best. Questions can be asked to us about any topic; whether it be a specific module, deadlines or university as a whole, the team and I are here to help in whatever way we can.
In first year, Biochemistry, Microbiology and DDT were where I found the most enjoyment.
In second year I studied Advanced Microbiology, Introduction to Pharmacology, Experimental Pharmacology and Introduction to Neuroscience, along with the compulsory modules of DDT and EDS.
Following graduation, I hope to study a PhD within the field of pharmacology or go on to work in drug discovery within a pharmaceutical company.
Please feel free to contact me via email for any queries regarding your 2nd year and connect with me on LinkedIn.

Hi, My name is Emma and I am a final year Medical Sciences student. I have just completed a PTY in research at the RILD in Exeter, looking at functional genomics in relationship to Cardiovascular disease.
For my second-year optional modules I took Introduction to Pharmacology, Coding for Medical Scientists, Medical Genetics and Advanced Cell Biology.
Outside of study I work as a swimming instructor, play a little with the med netball team and I also enjoy going out with friends.
I'm really looking forward to meeting everyone and I hope to be able to give you the same support that the second year mentors did for me. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions.
Fourth year, BSc Medical Sciences (Human Genomics) with Professional Training Year

Hi there, my name is Harvey, I’m a 4th year Medical Sciences student and I just finished a professional placement year with the UK Biobank. I’m eager to help students decide if a placement is for them as I feel this is the best place I can advise.
My favourite module has to be Medical Genetics as you could do an investigation into a disease of your choosing. I researched Ankylosing Spondylitis which impacted my uncle’s living quality throughout his life. I really liked this approach because it made the research I did more personal and impactful and made me realise how strong the genetic risk of AS was.
After completing my degree at Exeter I aspire to pursue a PhD in regenerative medicine with emphasis on stem cells.
Fourth year, BSc Medical Sciences with Professional Training Year

Hello, I’m Himani, currently in my fourth year studying Medical Sciences and I have just completed my PTY in the Oncology business unit at Pfizer. I’ve had an incredible year but I know how stressful applications can be so I shall try and help those of you who wish to do a PTY as best as I can!
More broadly speaking I’d be more than happy to share some of my top tips for second year and answer any worries/ queries any of you have about the course or about university life in general and being able to find a balance.
In second year, I took Introduction to Neuroscience, Ethical Issues in Health Research, Immunopathology, and Advanced Cell Biology as my optional modules, and I thoroughly enjoyed all of them!
After uni, I am hoping to do a ski season and continue travelling before settling into the working world (unless I find a graduate scheme I love).
Looking forward to our sessions and to meeting some of you :)
Feel free to email me to ask about anything.

Hi all!! My name is Isabella and I’m currently in my final year of the Medical Sciences with Professional Training Year programme.
I have just returned from my internal placement at the RILD in Exeter, which was focused on the genetic aetiology of Congenital Hyperinsulinism. While on my placement I gained experience in programming, clinical data analysis and laboratory-based techniques. After my studies in Exeter, I aim to undertake a PhD focusing on genetics, with a special interest in cancer research.
During second year my optional modules included Advanced Cell Biology, Molecular Biology of the Gene, Genomics and Introductory Bioinformatics and Medical Genetics. My favourite subject was probably Disease, Diagnostics and Therapeutics!
This year I will be studying New Drug Targets in Cancer Therapeutics, Cellular Basis of Immunity and Medical Genomics.
I am part of the Exeter Women’s basketball club and in my free time I enjoy reading and exploring new coffee shops in Exeter.
I look forward to meeting everyone next year! If anyone has any questions don’t hesitate to email me!
Third year, BSc Medical Sciences (Pharmacology and Therapeutics)
krystal@medscimentors.co.uk
Hi guys! My name is Krystal, and I am a third year Medical Sciences student focusing on the Pharmacology and Therapeutics pathway.
In first year, I really enjoyed Biochemistry and Microbiology, therefore, I wanted to enhance my knowledge of these areas by focusing on modules such as Introduction to Pharmacology, Experimental Pharmacology and Advanced Microbiology within my second year. I also chose to study Introduction to Neuroscience whilst strengthening my Christian faith by being a leader on both the students' and kids' teams at church.

Hi I am Larry, I am a 4th-year Medical Sciences student after a PTY in diabetes research with the university
My favourite module in year 2 is definitely Immunopathology, each week they will have expert-provided seminars from various fields.
I will be taking Cell Biology of Disease, Applied Data Science and Rational Drug Design for year 3.
Friendly advice: Don't fall behind in DDT or term 2 will be very rough (first-hand experience)
Third year, BSc Medical Sciences (Pharmacology and Therapeutics)
megan@medscimentors.co.uk
Hi, my name’s Megan and I’m a third year Medical Sciences student on the Pharmacology and Therapeutics pathway!
I really enjoy physiology-based modules (IHP in first year and DDT in second year), despite them being on the harder side. In second year, my elective modules were Molecular Biology of the Gene, Introduction to Pharmacology, Medical Genetics and Introduction to Neuroscience.
I think second year is the perfect time to experiment with optional modules in different areas of medical science! For me, this helped confirm what I was actually interested in and which areas I was happy not to continue studying going into third year.
As for my plans after graduation, I’m not 100% sure but am currently leaning towards some type of work-based training within the NHS.

Third year, BSc Medical Sciences
zahra@medscimentors.co.uk
Hi! I'm Zahra, a 3rd year MedSci student, and I'm thrilled to be part of this year's peer mentoring team. My journey so far has been both challenging and rewarding, and I've gained valuable skills along the way.
In my first year, I found Cells and Biochemistry engaging and surprisingly easy to follow. In my second year, I chose Anatomical Sciences as one of my modules and found it equally interesting. A key takeaway from completing my second year is the importance of time management.
I'm looking forward to what this upcoming year has to offer, and I am excited to share tips and tricks that have helped me through my 2nd year.
